Whats Your Interior Design Style: A List Of All the Styles

Hi Bobby, well my style is a mix of modern, glam and mid_century modern with a hit of boho. But I spent all my summers in Italy growing up and still love that style. Minimalist and Scandinavian share a lot of similar characteristics, like use of white and clean lines. My couches are neutral Crate and Barrel lounge but my walls are deep Aegean blue.

Eclectic style doesn’t have its own distinct aesthetic but is a melange of others. Eclectic design incorporates disparate elements in a way that ultimately makes sense. The final result will likely be colorful and full of varying textures, but it should still feel harmonious. Industrial design is simple and clean, and you can go very hard and metallic with it, if that’s your taste.

Arts and Crafts

Many people don’t believe in painting over wood furniture and would prefer to just stain it. Those people should avoid shabby chic furniture, which tends to use faux painting techniques. Furniture is painted, often in off-white or pastel shades, and then rubbed and sanded away to show the wood underneath. Transitional style is a balance between traditional and modern styling.

Undoubtedly, the Hollywood Glam interiors designers are by far the most modern and stylish of all. Their key characteristic is that they are super luxurious and over-the-top in their interior designs. They love to create big and bold statements with the help of dramatic and opulent design styles. Minimal interior styles and designs consist of ultra-clean lines and streamlined furnishings that have nothing flamboyant or glitzy about them. They also pick on-air and neutral color palettes that provide a great sense of warmth and coolness to the eyes. The main focus of rustic interior designers is on raw, natural, and unrefined elements that are bold and blatantly real.

Modern & Contemporary Houses

I consider my design sensibility to be “eclectic organic traditional”. My home was built in 1934 but I’d love to bring in pieces that feel more organic, textured. But I’ve also collected many one-of-a-kind and international pieces from my global travels, and I’ve inherited a lot of great mid-century items from my parents and uncles. I’m terrible with spacial concepts so I have a serious interior design handicap and need all the help I can get to pull all of the above together.

These large windows also allow a lot of natural light inside. The ceiling is vaulted and high, giving an impression of spaciousness. The transition between the indoor and outdoor parts is seamless, making it hard to distinguish. A 1.5 story design makes use of its loft areas and multi-purpose rooms. They are as tall as two-story buildings, but the bedrooms and living spaces are usually on the main floor. The Florida architectural style mostly features metal roods and large porch areas that span the entire house.

The lines of furniture and decor are generally straight, but elegant curves are also at home within the style. Contemporary means “of the moment”, so the design style is constantly evolving. Many styles were only popular during a certain time period, but contemporary has always existed and is ever-changing. In its earliest days, it borrowed elements from many different types of decor, including futurism, art deco, and deconstructivism.

The initial purpose behind these types of houses was to have something informal and easy to build. Over the years, these simple, single family homes became more and more popular, even making their way into the United States. Though there are many different styles of bungalows, there are certain characteristics that you will find consistent. These homes are small, most often one story and feature a sloped roof, large front windows, and a large front porch. The first thing to know is that there are two main ways to classify a home. Houses by their structure type are the first way to classify different house types.

Traditional

I’m really more of a Modern Gothic, and I feel like I don’t see that as much. I love elements of mid- century modern, but also beautiful, and always appreciated, Victorian style. My husband and I recently bought a house (eek! So excited to decorate!) BUT my husband also wants to be apart of the decorating process…which I’m determined to make a good thing. Now I view this post as a ‘What’s your Interior Design Love Language’ He leans Eclectic/Traditional and I love Scandinavian/Organic Modern.

Contemporary-style homes are found across the country, especially in new builds (though a new build doesn't necessarily have to be contemporary). Joe Schmelzer / Getty ImagesThe craftsman-style home came about in the early 20th century during the Arts and Crafts movement. These homes put a particular focus on materials and motifs that are inspired by nature. You’ll commonly find naturally toned woodwork, geometric stained glass, and several built-ins. The color palette of a craftsman-style home tends to be earthy in nature and includes shades such as forest green, rusty orange, and natural browns. Some of the common variations of the craftsman style include mission, bungalow, and Stickley.

New Traditional and Transitional styles allow you to make Traditional more your own. Mobile Homes are prefabricated, built in a factory, and then transported to a site. Although these manufactured homes can be transported, they often remain in a permanent spot after the initial transport after being built. A Mobile Home is usually at least 320 square feet and is relatively inexpensive to own. Not to be mistaken for an anything goes spirit, eclectic design is all about consistency, go-to hues, and best of all, the freedom to explore creative directions with studied nuances.

S “modular” describes something that is created or arranged in self-contained units—like building blocks. I craft the best articles on home renovation, real estate sales, and home decorating ideas found on the Internet. Also, my paternal family is from Miller, MO where I spent many Saturday nights in the ‘70s attending the hootenanny. While I loved all of the designs, Organic Modern felt like HOME. I would be perfectly happy in a home like in Downton Abbey.

The way the lines of the furniture work, they can be shipped compactly and inexpensively and assembled later. Overall, people tend to gravitate towards shabby chic because it’s so cute and charming. But this lived-in style is also incredibly comfortable and ages well over time. Colors are often warm colors layered over neutrals, and textiles might feature a cute floral print. Overall, a room will feel airy and cozy but will still have a sense of refinement. Double-hung windows can go with many different home styles and exteriors.
